How did she… start up her own business as a SEO Specialist

I’m sure the term “SEO” is no longer a strange term for many of us, however, when you need to put it into your business, it still likes a mystery if we are not a profession in this area.  You want to pay for the service and want to see the result. But honestly, when you don’t know the person who works behind the “screen”, it’s hard to see the things come in your way, as it is pretty much like having a virtual assistant to fight for your best benefit.  I’m glad to know Silvia here, who works for her clients in a more personal way that makes each of them feel being well taken care of.  It’s all about personal relationship, trust, and respect for each other.  Let’s dive into her story and see how we can also ride in a similar way to build our own business. border-21 border-21

Hi Silvia, tell us about yourself and your business?

I started working as an SEO Specialist 7 years ago in Italy, where I used to run our family web agency. When the Italian economy became too unstable for us, we relocated to the UK where I re-branded and founded PinkSEO, an SEO Consultancy that focuses on helping small business owners in their on-page Search Engine Optimisation.

Can you tell us what motivated you to start up your own business?

I always love how you can measure all the results that you can obtain. Rules for ranking websites are the same anywhere in the world, and the satisfaction that you got from putting the right keywords that generated the results is just amazing.  The smiles that I can see from my clients are just priceless!

There are plenty of people doing SEO called themselves specialist.  How do you differentiate yourself in the industry?

The fact that I am a small business owner myself, a mum in business, helps many similar business owners relate better with me. I try to explain SEO concept in an easily understandable way to my clients.   Agency usually work in a robotic way but I treasure each and every of my client who is being served in a personal and appreciated way.

What have you found to be your most effective way of finding your clients/audience?

Being active on Social Media is important and I love all kinds of networking.  And of course referrals from happy customers is my main source of new client acquisition.

How do you keep yourself motivated during the difficult times?

Sometimes stress and time management are the challenges for me. I am a perfectionist and a very energetic person.  I have 2 children who still require a lot of attention from me so work-life balance is something I always have to work on.

What is the upcoming marketing plan that you want to share with us?

There are many programs/products in the planning pipeline, but what I can definitely share is my intention to keep networking a lot, and having talks about SEO basics for small business owners. I’d like to look for more speaking opportunities in London!

What are the 3 big pieces of recommendation for those who are thinking to have their own startup?

  1. Know your numbers.
  2. Stay healthy: you are your business
  3. Build relationships: people will buy from you if they know you, like you, and trust you!
